Sound and Music Calls for Embedded now open

7 May 2015

Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations.

Aimed at talented composers and creative artists at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and a range of significant creative opportunities. So far over thirty composers have benefited from Embedded, and there is overwhelming evidence that it can be a transformational experience in terms of talent development, artistic ambition, professional experience and growing networks.

We are delighted to partner with Sound and Music for the Summer 2015 Embedded residencies. Building off the success of our first Embedded residency with Thomas Butler producing Elbow Room (check out See Us, Here Us and Past Events for info on Thomas and Elbow Room) we are pleased to announce this new residency for a composer to create new work with the ensemble. This opportunity would suit someone with ideas and ambition across all aspects of contemporary music performance, for example someone who aspires to setting up their own new music ensemble, or who has an interest in producing, as well as composing, new music.

The selected applicant will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in our activities, spending at least two days a month (on average) with the ensemble, in addition to writing time, which could include getting involved with regular nights in city venues or rural touring. The deadline for both these opportunities is noon Wednesday 3 June 2015.
