One of New Zealand’s most distinguished composers, Cresswell made Edinburgh his home in 1982 and has since become one of the most important figures in the Scottish music scene, receiving a prestigious Scottish Arts Council ‘Creative Scotland Award’ in 2001. His output comprises works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, choir, voice and solo instruments. Despite a discography that covers much of his music for orchestra, his string quartets remain as yet unrepresented on disc.
This recording will add these important works to the recorded catalogue, creating a new international platform for Cresswell’s music while making a significant contribution to the recorded repertoire of one of Scotland’s most eminent composers.
