Scottish composer Bill Sweeney’s 90—minute version of Hugh MacDiarmid’s poem A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle is a brilliant, multi-faceted setting of one of the landmark Scots poems of the twentieth century.
A string quartet drawn from Red Note’s line-up - Greg Lawson, Lise Aferiat, Jane Atkins and Robert Irvine - will perform with Tommy Smith, Joe Lovano and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra conducted by Gunther Schuller at the Edinburgh International Festival
